SAT and
PSAT Information
PSAT's are
given to sophomores in the fall terms.
The test measures critical thinking skills
that are important for success at college.
Test segments include critical reading,
math problem-solving and writing skills.
The state Department of Education covers
the cost of sophomores taking the tests.
Juniors who wish to take the test must
pay the fee of $12.00 on or before the
test date. Fee waivers are available
to juniors who qualify for free or reduced
lunch. These juniors must see the guidance
office for a fee waiver. Some of the
advantages to students who take the PSAT
include:
- Getting feedback about
critical academic skills
- Getting helpful information
from colleges
- Enter scholarship competitions
(as juniors)
- Great practice for
taking the SAT Reasoning Test

SATs
The Department of Education is requiring
all high school juniors to take the SAT’s. As a result juniors no longer take MEA's (Maine Education Assessment). The State of
Maine will cover the cost of taking these
exams and the results of the exams will
be used for the Maine assessment of students
performances and to meet the No Child
Left Behind assessments. In addition
many colleges require the SAT’s for admissions,
thus juniors will have already taken the
SAT’s when they begin their application
process for college. Registration will
be conducted through the school in early
winter and the exam will be given on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Wisdom High School.
