Social Studies

GEOGRAPHY  Pre-K-2

A.  SKILLS AND TOOLS  Students will know how to construct and interpret maps and use globes and other geographic tools to locate and derive information about people, places, regions, and environments.

      Students will be able to:

        1.  Use and construct maps and other visuals to describe geographic location, direction, size, and shape.

Discussion took place over the colonial situation in 1689.  This map shows the location of France to the rest of the world.
Students colored the provinces of France as they were known in the1600s.

 

Students colored the area in which French immigrants settled in Nova Scotia where they stayed until the Deportation.
On order of deportation, some Acadian settlers escaped to migrate up the St. John River to the St. John Valley.   Acadians settled on both sides of the river. In 1842 the Webster-Ashburton Treaty  used the St. John River as a dividing line.  Two thousand Acadians became Americans and 7000 square miles of Canadian land was given to the U.S.A.
