How Are We Related to Each Other?
As part of the students' genealogy unit, students get a
print-out of how their Franco-Canadian/American names connect. Many are
really distant cousins, others are closer. In this case the research is
done by the teacher but is included in their book. Students' responses to
finding out they are related to each other has been very positive. Some
overheard classroom comments have been, "You can have my snack because you're my
cousin." or "You can pass in front of me because you're my cousin."
